Kids' Paddling Summer Programs

Kids in our Sea Kayak Program paddle in Cohasset Harbor.
Get your child outside this summer! Our variety of paddling summer programs provides paddling instruction and experience to kids ages 9–16.
We mix instruction with expeditions, games, and activities to give your child a complete introduction to the world of paddling. Best of all, kids love it!
We offer a variety of programs tailored to different ages and abilities. All programs are led by experienced guides who are skilled paddlers, patient instructors, and are certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR.
Our Canoe, Kayak & SUP Program is held at Lake Cochituate and introduces kids in grades 4–6 to canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards.
Our Sea Kayak & SUP Program is based in Newton and allows kids in grades 6–8 to experience the beautiful Massachusetts coast.
Our Teen Adventure Program is based in Kendall Square, Cambridge and allows teens ages 13–16 to enjoy sea kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.
Canoe, Kayak & SUP Program
Kids can try out Stand-Up Paddleboarding in our Summer Programs.
If you are looking for a program full of fun on (and in) the water, look no further than our Kids' Canoe, Kayak & SUP Program. Each day we will spend time exploring, building skills, and having fun on one of three types of paddle-craft: canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards (the newest adventure on the water). There will also be time each day for swimming and off-the-water activities and games.
The Canoe, Kayak & SUP Program is for kids entering 4th, 5th, and 6th grades and requires no previous paddling experience. The program meets for three consecutive days from 9am–4pm. The program is based at our boathouse in Lake Cochituate State Park in Natick.
Full-Day Kids' Canoe, Kayak & SUP Program meets for three 7-hour sessions (Monday–Wednesday, 9am–4pm) at Lake Cochituate in Natick.
$239 includes three days of full-day programming.
Requirements for Kids' Program Participants
The nature of our kids' program experience requires that children possess a level of self-sufficiency, since activities are conducted in groups, and requires a level of skill to ensure that all campers can participate in our activities. In addition, to promote equal opportunity and enjoyment by all participants, children are expected to display appropriate behavior at all times and readily respond to corrective measures when taken.
In response, we have developed certain requirements that all participants must meet. Click here to view these requirements.

    Sea Kayak and SUP Program
The secret is out: Massachusetts has some of the most exciting paddling on the East Coast, and your child can explore it with Charles River Canoe & Kayak! The Sea Kayak and SUP Program is designed for kids entering grades 6–8 who are looking for

excitement and adventure on the water. We'll spend the first day in kayaks, learning the basics in a protected harbor, then venture out into an even more exciting locale the second day.
On the third day, we will switch to stand-up paddleboards, the newest on-water craze, for some touring and hopefully some surfing!
While the focus of each day is on exploration and adventure, there will be plenty of time for swimming, playing games, and (of course) building friendships. After this adventure, you may have a hard time getting your child to give up a life at sea!
Our Sea Kayak and SUP Program is offered in two separate and distinct weeks to allow your child to experience as much of the coast as possible. The July 8 session will explore Boston's North Shore, with possible destinations such as Gloucester, Rockport (including the incomparable Thacher Island), and Manchester-by-the-Sea. The July 29 session will explore the South Shore, with possible destinations like Boston's Inner Harbor, Hingham, and Cohasset. Sign up for one week, or double your fun and choose both!
The Sea Kayak and SUP Program meets each day at our Newton Boathouse and then travels by van to the day’s paddling destination. The program is for kids entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and requires no previous paddling experience.
Full-Day Sea Kayak and SUP Program meets for three 8-hour sessions (Monday–Wednesday, 8:30am–4:30pm). The program meets across the river from our Newton Boathouse and travels by van to the day's destination.
$299 includes three days of full-day programming.
