Introduction to Canoeing

can be elevated to an art. This course is designed for beginners and others desiring to improve their proficiency in flatwater canoeing.
We will cover basic techniques of paddling and precise maneuvering. Particular emphasis will also be placed on developing safety skills, including basic rescues, portaging, and cold-water preparedness. Our instructors will guide you through a steady progression of skill-building, designed to prepare you to explore ponds, rivers, and lakes on your own.
  
If, instead, you would like intermediate-level flatwater canoeing instruction, we are happy to schedule a private lesson for yourself or your group.
Weeknight Series in Newton meets for two 2-hour sessions at our Newton Boathouse on the same day and time for two consecutive weeks (e.g. two Mondays in a row from 6–8pm).
$99 includes four hours of instruction, two weeks of unlimited on-site practice time at any of our locations, and borrowing privileges from our video library.
Registration & Cancellation Policies for Classes & Trips
  • Full payment is due upon registration for a class, clinic, or trip.
  • For cancellations received 7 days or more before your scheduled activity, we will issue a refund less a 10% registration fee.
  • For cancellations received fewer than 7 days before your scheduled activity, we are unable to offer any refunds.
  • Classes, clinics, and trips always run unless the weather is extreme.
  • A minimum number of registrants is required for any event to run. If we cancel an event due to low enrollment, we will provide a full refund.
  • Each participant will be required to sign a waiver of liability. To save time, you can download this waiver and bring it with you.
