Ben Lawry's Dry-Land Rolling Class
Aug. 6, 2010: 6pm–7pm
Ben's Dry-Land Rolling Class is designed for anyone looking to start learning Eskimo rolling or work on rolling skills that haven't quite been mastered. As holding one's breath is a problem, we have developed dry-land rolling. It allows you to go through all the motions of rolling without the worry of being underwater. Now you have the muscles trained you can progress to the water with a strong idea of the motions you will be executing.

Ben Lawry's Two-Hour Dry-Land Rolling Class meets at our Newton Boathouse.

  • Ben Lawry's High-Performance Kayaking: Strokes for Rock Gardens and Conditions
    August 6, 2010: 10am–Noon
Sea kayaker in a rock garden.
Ben's Strokes for Rock Gardens and Conditions Clinic will convert your knowledge of boat maneuvering into practical skills for a rocks and ledges environment. Our focus will be on skill acquisition through technique to maximize the performance of the kayak and kayaker whilst pretending we are in a rock garden.

The clinic is held on flatwater and we use the conditions present to best suit the needs of the group. This clinic is designed for experienced paddlers who have taken basic instruction in boat maneuvering using sweep strokes and boat edging.

Ben Lawry's Two-Hour Strokes for Rock Gardens and Conditions meets at our Newton Boathouse.
$50 includes three hours of instruction.
$65 includes use of a composite sea kayak.
    Formal Introductory Instruction Required
Students who have not participated in our Introduction to Kayaking, Introductory Trip, or private lesson must have previous kayaking instruction, including a wet exit, before participating in our Ben Lawry Strokes for Rock Gardens Clinic (our Quick-Start Your Kayak is not sufficient).

If you are not comfortable performing intermediate skills like sweep strokes, boat lean, braces, assisted rescues, and self-rescues, you'll be shocked by how much your skills improve by taking our Intro. to Kayaking course or its equivalent. While the name says "Introduction," this course covers many intermediate and advanced skills and will greatly benefit anyone who has never had formal instruction. We guarantee it!

If you have had no formal training and have questions about the pre-requisites for our Ben Lawry Strokes for Rock Gardens Clinic, please contact us.
