Jimmy Blakeney of Northeast Paddlesurf will host a free Stand-Up Paddleboarding demo at our Soldier's Field Road location in Boston! Come down to try out the boards and receive very basic instruction. If you are interested in a full introduction, attend Jimmy's Intro to Stand-Up Paddleboarding described below. Wear a bathing suit and shoes that can go into the water.

Intro to Stand-Up Paddleboarding with Jimmy Blakeney
September 9 & 10: 5pm–6:30pm
Jimmy Blakeney of Northeast Paddlesurf will introduce you to the exciting world of Stand-Up Paddleboarding, the fastest-growing water sport! He has over 20 years of paddling and surfing experience, and is a 5-time member of the US Kayak Team, silver medalist at the World Championships and US National Champion. He is an ACA-certified paddlesports instructor and has a Masters Degree in Education. His unique background in both paddling and surfing allows Jimmy to teach SUP from both perspectives.

All of the skills needed for SUP are best introduced on land to reduce apprehension and allow you to focus on the skills introduced instead of how to stay balanced AND these new skills. We cover everything from what to do if you fall off your board to how to properly use your paddle once up and riding. Once on the water we'll begin on our knees and work our way to standing, covering stance, paddle position, body position, and taking your first strokes with your paddle.

Once you're comfortable with the paddle we'll work on how to perform the forward and sweep (turning) strokes. We'll also introduce more advanced skills to give you a taste of how much more there is to learn! Along the way we'll cover carrying and transporting your board, necessary gear, plus safety issues like weather and water conditions and potential hazards.

Intro to Stand-Up Paddleboarding with Jimmy Blakeney meets at our Newton Boathouse.
$68 includes 1.5 hours of instruction and use of a stand-up paddleboard.
