Hydroskin neoprene paddlewear offers the perfect blend of comfort and warmth. Whether it's windy and you're fighting off spray, or you're surfing and regularly getting wet, or the water's still a bit cold and you don't want to wear a thick wetsuit, Hydroskin is for you.
Hydroskin is 0.5mm neoprene with thinner Lycra panels under the arms and crotch for moving comfort. The fabric contains titanium to reflect body heat back to your core, and DWR coating to bead and shed water quickly. This second-generation fabric is more durable with greater snag resistance and dries more quickly. Pants have a high-back waist and drawstring prevent ride-down.
We have Hydroskin long-sleeve tops and long pants available now, and will receive short-sleeve tops and shorts in early May. Come down and try them on!
Danuu Canoe & Kayak Covers
Boat covers are a wonderful way to protect your pride and joy (and your investment). These inexpensive covers, new from Danuu, are simple and easy-to-use.
Constructed of durable, water-repellant ripstop nylon with reinforced seams at all pressure points, these covers will protect the boat from the UV rays in sunlight and from dust and dirt when on your vehicle or in storage.
The covers are available in a variety of sizes, and the secure strap system allows a fully adjustable custom fit — contact us to find the right size! There are no metal parts to rust. Plus, the cover folds into the attached bag when not in use, and this bag doubles as a red stern flag when you're on the road.
Werner "Athena" and "Cyprus" Carbon Kayak Paddles
Werner has expanded their line of foam-core carbon paddles! After the huge success of their Kalliste and Ikelos, the Athena and Cyprus will fill out the line for those looking for a slightly smaller blade.
Why foam core? First, buoyancy. You get more stability from your braces and more support for sculling and rolling. Second, weight. The foam core acts a stiffener, allowing Werner to use less material for a lighter paddle. Plus, when the blade is in the water, it floats, so the whole paddle feels lighter. Third, they're smooth as a knife through butter when in the water. The foam core allows Werner to smooth out the back face of the paddle, creating a super-clean entry and exit and a smooth pull through the water.
Which blade shape is for you? The Ikelos and Cyprus are designed for a more aggressive, high-angle paddling style. Choose these blades if your high hand remains at your chin or higher. The Kalliste and Athena, on the other hand, are for a more relaxed, low-angle paddling style.
Which blade size do you need? The Ikelos and Kalliste are larger blades designed for larger, fitter, and more powerful paddlers. The Cyprus and Athena are for smaller paddlers or folks who want reduced stress on their joints, and are available with Werner's small shaft. All four are available with Werner's neutral bent shaft.
Rack and Roll Kayak/Canoe Trailers
Charles River Canoe & Kayak is proud to offer the latest in canoe and kayak transportation — the Rack and Roll trailer! Instead of lifting your boat(s) onto your car or SUV, now you can transport them at waist level. How easy is it? Look at the photo at right!
Or, if you don't want bars on your car, Rack and Roll is the solution. Moreover, you're not limited to boats: the rack uses industry-standard load bars to work with almost any Thule or Yakima rack accessories, so you can carry bikes, skis, storage boxes, and more!

Impex "Force" Series Sea Kayaks
Impex has introduced their new line of composite expedition sea kayaks: the Force series. The Force was made to track straight yet be nimble when leaned on edge, provide plenty of storage capacity, and offer a low rear deck for rolling. Available in three different models for various paddler sizes (Cat. 3, Cat. 4, and Cat. 5), and two different constructions (Fiberglass and Carbon/Kevlar).
Compared with the Performance Touring line (which includes the Currituck), the Force series has significantly decreased rocker. What's rocker? It is curvature of the hull from bow to stern — the more rocker, the more maneuverable a boat becomes. Decreased rocker also improves speed.
- Cat. 3: 17' long, 20.5" wide, 11" mid-ship height (for the smaller paddler)
- Cat. 4: 18' long, 20.75" wide, 12" mid-ship height (for the medium paddler)
- Cat. 5: 18' long, 20.75" wide, 13" mid-ship height (for the large paddler)
All three Force kayaks are avalable for demo at our Newton Boathouse. Come down for a free test-paddle!
Aquabound "Manta Ray" and "Sting Ray" Carbon Kayak Paddles
For those recreational paddlers looking for a super-light paddle at a great price, Aquabound has the answer. Built with a carbon twill shaft and resin blades infused with carbon, this paddle weighs in at under 29 ounces! We offer two blade shapes designed for different paddler types. The Manta Ray is for those using a high-angle paddling style (with your high hand at your chin or above) and using a more aggressive touring stroke. The Sting Ray is a general-purpose blade for a low-angle, relaxed paddling stroke.
Priced at under $200, these paddles are half the price of some more expensive carbon models. If you're still using a heavy, aluminum-shaft paddle, you've got to try these!
Lendal Carbon & Fiberglass Kayak Paddles
A name that is synonymous with toughness and world-class expedition sea kayaking, Lendal has been making great-performing and reliable paddles out of England for years. Adding to our 4-piece Paddlok inventory, this season we will be stocking both the all-carbon and the fiberglass shafts, and touring paddles in all-carbon, fiberglass, and carbon/poly. Aside from being compact, this system gives the user the a la carte choices to make up a paddle just the way you want it: length, bent/straight shaft, blade shape, etc. And the joint is as solid as a one-piece paddle.
Available blade shapes will be the Kinetik Tour S, Kinetik Tour, Archipelago, and Nordkapp, with either straight or "crank" (bent) shafts. Not all blade shapes are available in all blade types. If you are not familiar with Lendal paddles come by and test some out from our demo inventory.
Necky "Manitou 14" & "Manitou II"
Looking for a lightweight light-touring kayak, with a skeg, priced under $1000? The Manitou 14 is your boat! Necky took the comfort and playfulness of the original Manitou 13 and added extra length, a front bulkheaded hatch, more deck rigging, and a skeg. With Necky's multi-adjustable seat, you'll be comfortable all day on the water.
As a complement to the light-touring Manitou 14, Necky has also introduced a light-touring tandem: the Manitou II (photo above). With two cockpits that can be outfitted with spray skirts, it's easier to keep water out of the boat when paddling in waves, boat wakes, or a rain shower. Both cockpits have Necky's multi-adjustable seat. Small and lightweight, this kayak paddles with the ease of a solo boat. Available with a rudder for tracking in the wind.
Wilderness Systems "Tsunami 120" & "125" Light-Touring Kayaks
A paddler-friendly, comfortable, versatile, maneuverable, and high-performance light-touring kayak. The Tsunami series melds the stability and quickness of a recreational touring kayak with the speed, storage and efficiency of a sea kayak. Now, with the introduction of the
120 and its larger cousin the
125, paddlers can get these benefits in a more maneuverable and lighter package. This series features the Phase3 seat, adjustable thigh braces offering a great fit, full size stern hatch, 10" bow hatch, 8" stern day hatch, bow and stern bulkheads, sea-kayak-style deck rigging, and the super-convenient Slide-Lock footbrace system.
The Tsunami is now available in the 120 (12') and 140 (14') for the small-to-medium paddler and the 125 (12'6") and 145 (14'6") for the larger paddler. You can also choose Wilderness System's new Duralite plastic, which is 20% lighter than their regular Gen2 plastic. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Tsunami benefits Americares, and is earmarked to help survivors of the December 26, 2004 tsunami rebuild their lives.
