July 4th Fireworks Boat Rentals 2013
A canoe or kayak on the Charles River is by far the best seat in the house for Boston's Fourth of July Fireworks. The event organizers welcome boaters, and the view can't be beat!
Whether you are a couple looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Esplanade, or a family spending time together, we have a boat that fits! From single or double kayaks to canoes that seat up to five adults, our boats can accommodate you. We even offer a guided Ten-Person Canoe Tour!
Going to another fireworks display? Our off-site rentals will guarantee a phenomenal view!

During the reservation process, you will request a preferred pickup time. This time is subject to change and not guaranteed until we confirm it with you.
All rentals require the deposit indicated below. Your credit card number is considered to be your deposit, but we do not charge or put a hold on your card unless the boat is stolen or damaged. Renters are responsible for all damage beyond normal wear and tear, including deep scratches, chips, and gouges through the boat's finish.
The State Police restrict boating access within a perimeter around the fireworks barge. Renters will be provided with information on this restriction before launching. Learn more on the Boston July 4 Web Site.
All boats rented in Allston/Brighton must be picked up by 7pm on July 4; all boats rented in Kendall Square must be picked up by 8:30pm. We reserve the right to rent remaining boats to others after these times, and no refunds or credits will be issued if your boat is no longer available.
The rental charge will be refunded, less a 10% administrative fee, if you cancel your rental by 5pm on June 27. After this date, the rental fee is non-refundable.
In the event that the fireworks and concert are cancelled due to weather before you pick up your boat, we will refund the rental fee, less a 10% administrative fee. If the fireworks and concert are cancelled after you pick up your boat, the rental fee is non-refundable.
Each participant will be required to sign a waiver of liability. To save time, you can download this waiver and bring it with you.

Single Kayak
NUMBER OF BOATERS: One Adult
RENTAL RATE: $15 per hour (Kids 6-12: $8 per hour)
FOR RENT IN (subject to availability):
Single Kayaks are perfect for anyone looking for a stable and comfortable boat. Choose a stable and maneuverable recreational kayak with a large, accessible cockpit, or the slightly longer, faster, and more form-fitting light-touring kayaks. Big or small, we can find a boat that fits you. And if you're under 12, take one of our Single Kayaks (including those specifically designed for children) at our Kids' Kayak rate.
If you've never been in a kayak before, work with a Dock Hand to pick out the boat that's perfect for you — and ask them to give you a few paddling tips as well.
Or, if you've paddled a few times, think about upgrading to a
Single Sea Kayak — longer, faster, and oh-so-smooth in the water.
Single Sea Kayak (Poly or Composite)
NUMBER OF BOATERS: One Adult
RENTAL RATE: $18 per hour
FOR RENT IN (subject to availability):
Sea kayaks are longer, faster, and offer more storage space. A limited selection of plastic sea kayaks is available at all our locations, and our Newton/Auburndale location has a wide variety of plastic sea kayaks plus sea kayaks made from lightweight, high-performance composite and thermoformed materials (in styles ranging from hard-chine and Greenland-style to British-style skeg boats and ICF racing kayaks).
Composite and Thermoformed sea kayaks are ideal for an
off-site rental where you'll be lifting it onto and off of your vehicle. Our ICF racing kayaks are perfect for training or fitness paddling.
All kayaks 15 feet or longer are considered sea kayaks.
Electric Single Kayak
NUMBER OF BOATERS: One Adult
RENTAL RATE: $20 per hour
FOR RENT IN (subject to availability):
Our Ocean Kayak Torque electric single kayaks are amazingly fun and fast. Scoot around at 4-5+ mph with no effort! If you don't feel like motoring, you can always paddle like a normal kayak.
If you like fishing, the Torque comes outfitted with two rod holders and a rod storage hatch, plus you can troll easily using the electric motor. Not an angler? Don't worry — the Torque is great for just getting around and exploring.
Double Kayak
NUMBER OF BOATERS: Two Adults
(plus a small child with the optional kid's seat)
RENTAL RATE: $19 per hour
FOR RENT IN (subject to availability):
Faster, more stable, and less susceptible to wind than a canoe, a double kayak is great fun to paddle. And, with our optional kid's seat, your small child can come along as well!
Our rental fleet includes recreational double kayaks (with a single, large cockpit for both paddlers), and, by special request in Newton only, a plastic double sea kayak (with two separate cockpits) with a retractable rudder. You can also upgrade to a lightweight composite double kayak (Newton only).
Doubles are perfect for friends, couples, or families, so drop by and take one on the water today.
Composite/Thermoformed Double Kayak
NUMBER OF BOATERS: up to Two Adults
RENTAL RATE: $24 per hour
FOR RENT IN (subject to availability):
Newton/Auburndale
Our double kayaks constructed of Composites or Thermoformed Plastic are true sea kayaks, with separate cockpits and hatches for storage. Take them on an
off-site rental — they're perfect for camping and extended trips!
While these boats are made for trips at sea, they are also great on the river. Composite doubles are faster and handle better than our plastic doubles (especially when using the retractable rudder).
Quad Kayak
NUMBER OF BOATERS: up to Four Adults
RENTAL RATE: $30 per hour
FOR RENT IN (subject to availability):
Fun for the whole family! Seats up to four adults, but paddles great with as few as two adults and a child.
Our quads are very stable sit-on-top kayaks perfect for families and groups of friends, and they're much faster than our double kayaks.
Single Kids' Kayak
NUMBER OF BOATERS: One Adult
RENTAL RATE: $8 per hour for kids ages 6-12
FOR RENT IN (subject to availability):
Kids love the freedom of paddling their own boat! At Charles River Canoe and Kayak, all kids age 12 and under can rent their own kayak at the Kids' Kayak rate — it doesn't matter whether they fit in a true kids' kayak or one made for bigger folks.
As long as you are comfortable giving your child instructions (and rescuing them if necessary), we recommend Kids' Kayaks for children as young as six, depending on their maturity level. Come down and try it out!
Standard Canoe
NUMBER OF BOATERS: up to Three Adults
or Two Adults & Two Kids
RENTAL RATE: $17 per hour ($15/hour for solo use)

Canoes are the old standby — great for couples, friends, and families. In addition to canoes for two or more, we also have solo canoes available upon request.
If you are taking a canoe
off-site, consider our lightweight and efficient Royalex canoes, available at our
Newton location for a small additional charge.
