Sea Kayaking Trips 2010

Massachusetts has over 1,500 miles of coastline, ranging from the dramatic rocky shores of Cape Ann to the sandy beaches of Cape Cod and the Islands. We offer a wide selection of day trips to locations throughout
Through our sea kayaking trips you can experience the amazing Massachusetts coast, including Boston Light.
Massachusetts, giving you a chance to explore this picturesque coast under the watchful eye of an experienced guide and instructor.
At Charles River Canoe & Kayak, our focus is education. Therefore, most of our trips have a strong instructional component, and all offer a low student:instructor ratio. Even our "destination" trips incorporate some paddling and safety skill development. It's our goal to have kayakers leave our trips as better paddlers.
These trips offer a level of adventure for everyone, whether you're a complete beginner looking for an Introductory Trip or a seasoned paddler seeking to expand your skills or go somewhere new. See our trip ratings for more information on necessary skill levels for our trips.
PFD, paddle, wetsuit, and paddling jacket rentals are included in the price of the trip. Drysuit rentals are available for $20 per trip. Bring a hearty lunch and plenty of water, and dress for the weather. Trips depart our Newton Boathouse at the time indicated and return by 5pm. Trips always run unless the weather is extreme; alternate plans will usually be arranged. Please call us at (617) 965-5110 if you have questions.

Ocean Skills Full-Day Trip meets at our Newton Boathouse and travels by van to Cohasset. We plan to return to Newton approximately 9 hours after the trip departs.
$139 includes full-day trip with expert guiding (max. 5:1 student:instructor ratio) using your own boat.
$155 with a composite or plastic sea kayak (model depends on availability).
Pre-Requisites & Requirements. Before signing up for this trip, you must have:
  • Formal introductory instruction, like our Introduction to Kayaking, Introductory Trip, or equivalent.
  • Previous practice of a wet exit, where you flipped a kayak, removed the sprayskirt, and exited the kayak while underwater.
  • Previous practice of an assisted rescue, where you wet-exited the kayak in deep water and were rescued by another kayaker.
  • Ability to paddle 6 miles in an outing.
  • Formal Introductory Instruction Required
Students who have not participated in our Introduction to Kayaking, Introductory Trip, or private lesson must have previous kayaking instruction, including a wet exit, before participating in our Ocean Skills (our Quick-Start Your Kayak is not sufficient).
If you are not comfortable performing intermediate skills like sweep strokes, boat lean, braces, assisted rescues, and self-rescues, you'll be shocked by how much your skills improve by taking our Intro. to Kayaking course or its equivalent. While the name says "Introduction," this course covers many intermediate and advanced skills and will greatly benefit anyone who has never had formal instruction. We guarantee it!
If you have had no formal training and have questions about the pre-requisites for our Ocean Skills, please contact us.
    Wet Exit Practice Required
Students who have not performed a wet exit may sign up for our Ocean Skills but must complete the Introduction to Kayaking course, an Introductory Trip, or a private lesson before participating in our Ocean Skills (our Quick-Start Your Kayak is not sufficient). If you have questions, please contact us.
    Assisted Rescue Practice Required
Students who have not performed an assisted rescue may sign up for our Ocean Skills but must complete the Introduction to Kayaking course, an Introductory Trip, or a private lesson before participating in our Ocean Skills (our Quick-Start Your Kayak is not sufficient). If you have questions, please contact us.
Paddle 6 Miles in an Outing
Students participating in our Ocean Skills must be able to paddle 6 miles in an outing. For most people, spending more time kayaking will help them increase their endurance so they can fulfill this requirement. For a quick and easy way to spend more time on the water, visit one of our rental locations! If you have questions, please contact us.
