What To Wear and Bring
Kayaking is a water sport. As such, your child should plan to get very wet. Students should wear clothing that, when wet, is comfortable and has some insulating qualities. Synthetic materials such as fleece, non-cotton long underwear, and nylon shorts and jackets work well. Avoid wearing cotton unless the weather forecast predicts a very warm day.
Classes run rain or shine. Students should come prepared for the weather of the day. If it is cool or rainy, bring warmer clothing and a rain jacket with a hood. For hot and sunny days, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat provide important protection from the sun.
Footwear is required at all times. Water sports sandals (e.g. Tevas), or old sneakers are good choices.
On your head, wear a hat with a brim. If you wear glasses, a retaining strap (available at any sporting goods store) is required. There's little shade on the water, so wear sunglasses with a retaining strap and sunscreen, even if it's cloudy.
Bring a towel and extra clothes and shoes for your child to change into after class.
Weather
Paddling can be done in almost any weather, and, accordingly, we run classes rain or shine. Only in the case of extreme weather conditions, such as a thunderstorm, will we not go on the water. Cancellation decisions are made 2 hours before the class is scheduled to begin, and we will contact all customers via phone and e-mail if we do cancel the event.
Additional Information
The water quality on this section of the Charles River is quite good. Usually it meets swimming standards and easily surpasses boating standards. Class members will always be wearing a Life Jacket when on the water. However, students are required to know how to swim and must be comfortable in the water.
If your child needs any special medications, please bring them and alert your child's instructor to their needs. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or reply to this e-mail.
Safety Information
You are required to wear a mask on land, while getting into and out of your boat and on the water when distancing is not an option. You can take off your mask while paddling. We recommend bringing an extra mask in a ziploc bag in case yours gets wet.

You will be expected to get on and off the water without physical assistance from our staff, we will provide verbal tips and demonstrate how to do it. We also have boat hooks that will help stabilize the boat.

All of our lifejackets, boats, boards and paddles are cleaned after every use.
